A new rare material has been added to SootSMP and OPSMP, called Charged Opal, which has a very low chance to drop when mining any type of diamond ore (the pickaxe used to mine it cannot have silk touch). When someone drops an opal, the entire server is notified of who dropped it. Charged Opals are ancient gemstones that can be inset into any piece of Netherite equipment, and will increase the max level of one specific enchantment on each equipment by 1. (Ex. Netherite pick with Eff5 gets upgraded to Eff6, Swords Sharp 5 -> 6, etc.) You can only inset one opal per item, and the opal is combined with the item on use. (The netherite item has to have the enchantment to upgrade it, and the increased enchantment levels will NOT carry over in an anvil.)
To inset a Charged Opal into an item as a Java Edition Player, hold the crystal in your off hand, your Netherite item in your main hand, and press your Swap Item With Offhand key. (F by default)
For Bedrock Edition players, hold the opal in your hand, and type the command /geyser offhand to move it to your offhand. Then, hold your netherite item in your main hand, and type /geyser offhand a second time, and it should inset the opal into your tool.
The chance to drop one 1/250 per diamond ore mined, fortune does not affect drop rates.
On OPSMP, you’ll be able to increase ench levels higher (10) and drop chance is going down to 1/100
If you enjoy the idea and wish to see more or feel like it could be changed in some way, please don’t hesitate to use the /suggest feature that should be available network wide to give feedback, as it’s the first time we’ve added something like this to a main SMP.
